To acclimate visitors to close inspection of fine details, the entry court provided an immersive start to the exhibition with an animation of enlarged colorwash hues and linework. Referencing Botticelli's use of perspective and framing, visitors began the show moving through angled doorways with key drawings as the central focus. The intent of the design was to provide visitors with a renewed, fresh perspective on the process and skill of an established Renaissance figure.

As many of Botticelli’s drawings are intimate in comparison to his paintings, one ambition of the design was to elevate their prominence and scale within the galleries. This was accomplished through the use of a soft green accent set against minimal white walls that brightened the overall space in spite of the lowlight requirements for artworks. The accent color was derived through color studies of Botticelli's paper substrates prepared with colorwash for metalpoint, one of his methods for marking with a metal stylus.
